HTC One S screen not responding!

I sometimes experience instances in where im trying to text and my touch screen will not respond to my fingers. The screen looks to be frozen but after a few seconds maybe 20-30 everything i typed comes up on the screen. This is surely not normal I might have a damaged screen? this a common issue?
