no 3g signal

I have had a HTC 1X for about 6 weeks "upgrading???" from an iphone so far i am less than impressed with it but can see it may have potential once it is working properly

Current issue is with the 3G data connection only working occasionally even though we are in a strong coverage area
spent almost an hour this morning with a phone tech from Optus going through and checking and changing settings until he gave up declaring it to be a possible software or firmware issue
software has been updated and was up to date as of this morning

does anyone have any ideas as to what i can do to fix this?
we have 2 of these phones and both are doing it

I have had my One X for the same time, and have the same problem. My provider '3' in the UK says it's not their network, but my Desire was a lot better.

I wanted the One X and not the Samsung, but that may have to change if this and the my other problems are not fixed.

if your service provider says its not them, then i doubt its the phone as well. There must be some kind of frequency in your area thats interfering with your 3G signal.
